Years ago, however, we read a rare review on their reserve-level bottling called Marina Cvetic, named after Gianni Masciarelliís wife, to whom a series of wines are dedicated. We have been fans ever since. The 2010 Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Montepulciano díAbruzzo is the most impressive and harmonious example of this wine we can recall. This wine does get a little attention from the press, scoring 90 points or more in The Wine Advocate in seven of the eight vintages reviewed. Although The Wine Advocate hasnít commented on this 2010 bottling, Wine Spectator just published a 91-point score in their Advance newsletter with a ďSmart BuysĒ designation. The 2010 Marina Cvetic is 100% Montepulciano that sees 100% new oak. All of the Marina Cvetics have been glossy and texturally appealing, but this 2010 sports a unique harmony and a subtle nose of black and red stone fruits, violets, earth, and fresh wild herbs. The palate has weight, but shows its plushness without excess. It is rich, polished, and smooth, yet almost weightless as it slides across the tongue. There arenít any tannins poking out, and the acidity is tucked away under the fruit. Itís one of those rare Italians that you could just haul off and drink. Simply delicious..
Stock Report October 2014 James Suckling writes: "This is a beautifully opulent and silky red with blackberries, blueberries and dark chocolate character. Full body, juicy fruit and a long finish. So much going on here. Drink or hold."
|The estate was founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a pioneer wine producer in his native region of Abruzzo who raised the quality and reputation of the local grape varieties -the red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and the white Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Masciarelli's wines, hich have earned numerous Gambero Rosso awards, appeal to expert and novice alike. The wines are worthy of the memory of Gianni, who worked tirelessly to secure his legacy as one of the true innovators in the Italian wine industry before his untimely passing in summer of 2008. Today, Masciarelli is the largest organically farmed estate in Italy.|
