Wine Spectator 92 points - A classy Bordeaux-like effort, rich and harmonious, with ripe plum, blackberry, black cherry and spice notes, as touches of cedar and herb firm midpalate, yet gain depth and persistence on the finish. Drink now through 2021. 1,448 cases made. –JL (Sep 30 2011)
CherryBlock is the small single vineyard wine that used to be August Sebastiani's tomato patch. Over time, the grapes that were planted in stages became more and more special. The family understands the importance of this place and wine and that is why it is not made every year. In 2000 no CherryBlock was produced and the grapes were instead blended into some of the other wines. When available, this rich wine has a lushness and depth that is arresting. Chocolate and blackberry flavors are prominently evident in mid-palate. This would be a good wine for the cellar.

| Since its creation, Cherryblock has been our flagship wine at Sebastiani. It is our ultimate interpretation of Sonoma Valley Cabernet based upon more than a century of experience in the region. While the wine continues to be based upon its original old-vine block of estate Cabernet, we now include small amounts of fruit (Cabernet, Merlot, and Malbec) from other Sonoma Valley sites sharing similar climates and soils. Our goal is to create a more complete and compelling wine, a Cabernet that epitomizes the elegance, structure and high-toned aromatics unique to Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. |
