#40: Selected from various low yielding vineyards in the Wairau, Brancott, Waihoepai and Awatere valleys, these Sauvignon Blanc grapes were machine harvested and protectively handled. After juice clarification the wine was innoculated with pure, aromatic yeast strains and cool fermented. Once dry the wine was stabilised, filtered and bottled.
Palate: Unfolds with flavours of passionfruit, gooseberry and subtle herbaceousness. The wine is mouthfilling with good texture and finishes well with cleansing acidity and great length.
Food Match: Good to drink with anyone at anytime. Ideally suited to asparagus, oysters and summer salads.
|Wine maker notes
|These grapes were selected from vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley and the neighboring Awatere Valley. Fast draining, alluvial loams over gravelly subsoils in these valleys provide ideal growing conditions for our Sauvignon Blanc. Individual blocks were targeted for their strengths and overall contribution to the blend. The vines ranged in age, up to 14 years, bringing a mix of youthful vigor and depth of flavor.
The aromas exhibit intense tropical fruit and fresh cut grass notes while the palate bursts with passionfriut, citrus and ripe stonefruit flavors. An exuberant and expressive wine that pairs brilliantly with fresh seafood, goat cheese salad or on its own.

|In 1996, Kim Crawford and his wife Erica fell in love with the idea of starting a winery. The only problem was they had little money. So Kim and Erica ran the company from a spare room of their home in Central Auckland, New Zealand. In their first vintage, they produced 4,000 cases without owning a single grapevine or tank.
With head-spinning speed, their powerful, aromatic wines gained a devoted, even fanatical, following. Just two years after startup, they began exporting their wines to the United States. Within four short years of their first release, the Crawfords had rented a state-of-the-art winery in Marlborough and began looking at vineyards they could buy.
In 2003, Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List for the first time. And then again in 2005, 2006 and in 2008—the same year Wine Spectator also awarded our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 91 points to mark seven years in a row of 90 plus points for this wine.
