Nestled in the slopes of the famous vineyards of Ay, France are the picturesque stone buildings of Champagne Deutz, founded a century and a half ago by William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Gelderman, Today, Deutz upholds the traditions of champagne-making handed down through five generations. The Brut Classic represents the distinctive Champagne Deutz style of elegance and finesse, which has made Deutz one of the most respected of Champagne houses. The wine is matured according to traditional methods from a blend of several vintages from 20 of the best crus including 40 percent of the fruit coming from Deutz’s own 98-percent-plus rated vineyards. Intense gold in color with a fine effervescence that signifies a long maturation on the lees, the wine displays initial aromas of white flowers, toast, and ripe pears. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and elegant with the freshness of Chardonnay and the richness of Pinot Noir; well-rounded with a fruity finish. Also available in half-bottles, this our Champagne pick for the holiday season.
Wine maker notes
The Brut Classic Champagne is produced by pressing in automatic and traditional Coquard basket presses, with 100% malolactic fermentation-primary fermentation occurs in 3,000 gallon tanks for two weeks. A blend of several vintages are aged at least two years en tirage. The wine is hand riddled in traditional pupitre racks, with dosage of a half-ounce blend of cane sugar and old vintage wine which changes from year to year depending on the demands of vintage.
