Bruce Cohn purchased the ninety acre Olive
Hill Estate Vineyards of Sonoma in 1974 and
founded the winery ten years later. This beautiful
microclimate features underground hot springs
and is surrounded by 140 year old Picholine
olive trees imported from France. Sonoma has
a limited number of unique geographic areas
that provide particular growing conditions like
B R Cohn and Benziger that produce both better
fruit and distinctive “terroir”. The Silver Label
is one hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon.
The grapes came from the estate itself (thence,
the fi rst foot down with emphasis in a Mediterranean-infl uenced
yet California-specifi c dialectic), as well as from a few select
northern vineyards (offering a second, fi rm foundation in regional
geography). The wine displays black cherry, cassis, and coffee
fl avors with a medium-bodied structure and smooth vanilla fi nish.
This is the best Silver Oak Label Cab we have tasted in the last
four vintages and, consequently, we recommend it both for current
drinking and for cellaring over the next few years.
