Big and rich, but never “over-the-top,” we believe this is a Clos that will improve with some time in bottle. Wine Spectator rated this wine 91 Points and said this,“sleek, elegant and refined, showing a mix of dried currant, black cherry, herb and light cedary oak, with hints of spice and herb. Impressive for its balance, depth, restraint, and complexity.”
Showket Vineyards is located on the eastern hillsides of beautiful Napa Valley, California, overlooking the small village of Oakville. It has an elevation of approximately 600 feet. The temperatures are slightly cooler in the summer than the valley floor and slightly warmer in the winter. Because of the elevation and orientation of the vineyard no frost protection is required. The soil is a clay-loam type that is very rocky. The vines are stressed sufficiently to produce an excellent product. The tonnage is considerably less than vines produced on the valley floor giving intensity in flavor that can only be produced in such a hillside vineyard.
Our winemaker is Heidi Peterson Barrett, whose remarkable reputation comes from her ability and talent in making outstanding wines. Wines crafted by her have repeatedly brought some of the highest bids at the Napa Valley Vintners Association Annual Charity Wine Auction. Heidi has worked with grapes from our vineyard since we first met her at Gustav Dalle Valle's in 1988. We are delighted that Heidi stayed on our hillside where she cemented her reputation as one of the best and brightest winemakers in Napa Valley. We are especially happy that she is now using her talents and our vineyards to produce world class wines for Showket Vineyards. s
