So, Grayson Cellars’ owner, Mike O’Connell, has always insisted that his wines be made from the best fruit. Score one for Grayson.
However, in order to achieve stellar status, Mike also hired Larry Levin, who is best known for his wines from Franciscan, Estancia,
Mt. Veeder, and from his longest stay - at Dry Creek Vineyard. Larry has traveled as far as New Zealand, but also manages to consult
closer to home in the Stag’s Leap district of Napa. The Chardonnay featured in this newsletter really took us off-guard. Its elegant
bouquet showed pear, peach, and subtle hints of French oak. On the palate, profuse green apple notes displayed a rich creaminess,
soft acidity, and a long, balanced finish. A pleasure to drink on its own, it will serve admirably with the last of your winter meals
even as it conjures thoughts of spring.
