Vinous 90 points - (14.2% alcohol; 50% new oak): Bright medium red. Pungent, scented nose offers red cherry, raspberry, fresh herbs, clove and rose petal. Juicy, spicy and refreshing, with lovely floral perfume and nicely integrated acidity framing the sappy red berry and salty mineral flavors. Finishes with sweet, fine-grained tannins and lovely lift. Utterly satisfying entry-level pinot. Patz & Hall bottled more than 7,000 cases of this wine, and roughly the same quantity of the Sonoma Coast chardonnay (plus another 5,300+ of the Dutton Ranch chardonnay), with their dozen or more vineyard-designated bottlings accounting for not much more than 15% of total production in vintage 2011.
Wine Enthusiast 89 points - Shows good Sonoma Coast character in the tart acids and cool-climate flavors of pomegranates, cherries and cola. Lots of new French oak adds rich notes of buttered toast and smoke. Appealingly dry, it’s a fancy, elegant wine from this fine producer, but finishes a little short. Drink over the next 2-3 years. Wine Spectator 92 points - Ripe and juicy, with red and black plum and black cherry flavors. The silky texture lets the flavors linger on the finish, ending with a touch of fresh earth and anise. Drink now through 2022.óJ.L. (Jun 26 2013)
