Brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe have taken over the helm at Château du Cèdre, a noted estate in the heart of Cahors – famous as the home turf of the Malbec grape, and now farm their vineyards organically. This white blend of 60% French Colombard and 40% Ugni Blanc reminds us, however, that when these grapes are not pressed into service and distilled to make Armagnac (their renowned regional brandy) they make an admirable wine full of pear, citrus and stone fruit flavors with a hint of coriander-like spice. Serve Cedrus as an aperitif or with lighter summer fare and watch the smiles emerge.
