Nowhere on the planet is Chardonnay produced with more delicious purity and charm than that found in the better quality whites from southern Burgundy in the Mâcon region. Even better, these wines are consistently affordable, representing some of the best white wine values in the market. Dominique Cornin, who produces his wines with the help of his son Romain, represents the fourth generation of farmers named Cornin in the village of Chaintré. They farm dozens of small vineyard plots in and around his village. For a long time, the vineyards have been farmed organically, but Cornin’s vineyards were not certified organic (Agriculture Biologique) until 2009, and for several years they have been practicing most of the biodynamic regimen on their vineyards, including the use of most of the preparations and the lunar calendar. An immediate appeal and generosity mark this Mâcon which exhibits zesty lemon and apple fruits, hints of wet stones, along with the push and pull of unctuous textural weight and lively acidity. Fresh, vibrant and warm, drink this with grilled chicken, salmon or halibut.
