One of the benefits of tasting 180 wines in an afternoon is the ability to find something new. Lima is a case in point. World renowned oenologist Joćo Portugal Ramos had his first release of Lima Vinho Verde in 2011 and teamed up with Winebow Imports to bring this assertive young label to the United States. The thirty-five acre Paco do Cardido Vineyard is the source for this wine composed 100% of the Loureiro grape. It was planted between 1982 and 1992 with a southern exposure between 330-560 feet. Loureiro, laurel scented, grows very well in northern Portugal near the shore and is also planted in parts of Spain. The grapes are cold fermented in stainless steel and have a clean lemon yellow appearance in the glass. We enjoyed the ripe sunny nature of this relatively low alcohol (10.5%) wine and recommend it as an aperitif or matched with shellfish or steamed vegetables.
