This Nebbiolo comes from the small, 4.5 acre Loreto vineyard, owned by the Guidobono family in the frazione (small village) of Canale called Madonna di Loreto in the province of Cuneo. This vineyard previously belonged to the Counts of Loreto and has been planted with vines since the 1500s. With notes of dried rose and violet in the bouquet, the wine’s palate is silken and warm, offering wild berry fruit and sweet, soft tannins. We thought this wine much better than its price: a ‘slam-dunk’ commitment, embodying much the same character as Barolo, affording very pleasurable near-term drinking as well as offering medium-term aging potential. A fantastic value! Food match: Duck Breast and Confit, Pickled Peach, Quinoa, and Wilted Spinach with shaved Summer Black Truffle.
