Dauvergne-Ranvier is the work of Jean-François Ranvier and François Dauvergne, two French men with a passion for wines that never display power and girth at the expense of finesse: their ‘Vins Gourmands’ range is meant to imbibe and inspire. The 2010 Côtes-du-Rhône is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan, all sourced from low-yielding vines on the right bank of the Rhône River, planted in alluvial soils of limestone and marl. The Grenache, which makes up the majority of the blend, brings explosive fruit and good color from its thick skins. The Syrah adds a touch of acidity which complements the blend. Fleshy and rich with youthful vigor and – by southern Rhône standards – light on its feet, try this versatile wine slightly chilled with a Salad Niçoise or vegetarian lasagna.
