Founded by the Perucci brothers in 1998, the Accademia puts together winegrowers, agronomists and passionate winemakers, with the aim to defend the integrity of Apulian wines against an onslaught of globe-trotting mega-producers who annihilate the typicity of the native Apulian grapes. Anarkos – a wine against the manipulated jammy fruit of a bland international style – blends 50% Primitivo, 30% Malvasia Nera and 20% Negroamaro – the top three indigenous varietals, delivering a rich and tangy tipple, full of red and black cherry fruit, with very surprising intensity and a relentlessly long finish for such a moderately priced wine. A virtual wine manifesto, handed down as proof of the true nature of Pugliese viticulture, we loved its honest earthiness and immediate appeal. Food match: Gniumerieddi – skewers of lamb or goat with slices of salt pork, pecorino and bay leaves grilled over the coals of a wood fire.
