Rocche di Castiglione displays elegance, fine tannins, a persistent taste and minerality. It accurately reflects the characteritics of the soil of origin. Its tannins develop from a rugged soil, sandy and calcareous. Ruby red in colour with light garnet reflections, delicate notes of spices and liquorice and a desirable bouquet of red berries. Extraordinarily long finish.
Wine Advocate 92 points - The 2006 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione shows wonderful richness, density and inner perfume in its dark red fruit. It is a surprisingly muscular Barolo from this site, with terrific balance and plenty of depth to support many years of cellaring. Floral, spiced notes are wrapped around the long, sensual finish. With more time in the glass, the open, perfumed quality of Rocche comes through even more clearly. To be sure, this remains a powerful, austere wine in need of significant time in bottle, but it is highly promising. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036.  (Dec 2010)

Wine Spectator 94 points - This tightly wound young red shows plenty of cherry, strawberry and raspberry flavors, tinged by spice and tobacco details. Vivid and well-structured, with a dense matrix of tannins. The elements come together on the lingering finish. Best from 2018 through 2035.B.S. (Oct 8 2014)

Rocche di Castiglione is a beautiful narrow vineyard on top of the “Rocche”, whose meaning is “cliffs”. The original rock is extremely close to the surface, the sedimentary soil is not deep, instead, it is thin and loose. During the warmest seasons, the plants really suffer for water shortage.

Producer
Poderi e Cantine Oddero is a historical brand among Barolo producers. The winery’s roots go back to the end of the 18th century when our ancestors began to make wine under their own name. The wine cellars, located in the frazione Santa Maria of La Morra, are raised up on a natural terrace and overlook the hills of the Langhe. Immersed in a sea of beautifully tended vineyards, our winery cultivates 35 hectares of the best cru of the Langhe and Asti territories to make some of Piedmont’s most renown wines: Barolo, Barbaresco, Langhe Nebbiolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Barbera d’Asti, and Moscato.
