Vinous 93 points - The 2012 Chablis Vaillons is wonderfully expressive and open today, with the fruit very much in evidence, while mineral notes are only beginning to develop. Today, the Vaillons is all about texture, richness and resonance. There is plenty to look forward to here.
Wine Advocate 90 points - The 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons is usually picked the same time as the Vaudesir, both precocious soils. The nose is certainly more complex than the Montmains, with lime and yellow flowers as well as touches of smoke coming through with aeration. The palate is well-balanced with crisp acidity. This is tightly wound, a touch of dried honey developing toward the lively finish, although it does not have the persistency of Fevre?s finest crus. Drink 2015-2022. (Aug 2014)
Located on the Cote des Vaillons, this appellation has 8 distinct “lieux dits”. With a soil base more limestone than clay, sitting on hard, compact Portlandian limestone, it represents all the different types of Chablis terroir under one appellation.
