The high plateau of the Ribera del Duero in central Spain produces some of the greatest wines in the world, fashioned from the noble Tempranillo grape. With greatness comes a price, but in this wine we can enjoy some of the high-toned beauty of Ribera del Duero at a remarkably affordable price. Creta is a joint venture between importer Eric Solomon and proprietor Isaac Fernandez and this 100% Tempranillo, from a 70-year-old-vineyard, is aged four months in both French and American oak (70% and 30% respectively). At the core of this wine is a sweet red cherry fruit all laced about with succulent acidity, hints of cedarwood, chocolate and damp earth. Perfect for roast pork or poultry, this wine would also complement mushroom-based dishes.
|CRETA is a partnership between Eric Solomon & Isaac Fernandez Montana. Isaac is one of the team of winemakers working at Mariano Garcia’s family bodega, Mauro, located in Tudela del Duero. Mariano Garcia is perhaps Spain’s greatest winemaker and, with thirty vintages at Vega Sicilia under his belt, he is arguably one of the finest winemakers in the world. Isaac is Mariano’s nephew and great winemaking clearly seems to run in the family.
