In the Tuscan dialect, “Citto” means “a young
boy”. In the tradition of Bordeaux Chateaux - Mouton
Rothschild has its Mouton Cadet, Cheval Blanc has its
Petit Cheval - Castello di Volpaia has its Citto. A blend
of 65% Sangiovese and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, Citto
is sourced entirely from organically cultivated estate
vineyards located in Chianti Classico and the Maremma.
The aim here is to make an intensely fruity and easy
drinking wine, so it is fermented and raised in stainless
steel tanks. The Sangiovese lends bright berry flavors
while the Cabernet gives darker fruit and subtle herbs
and spice. It’s refreshing enough to drink on its own but
it will be a great red to have around for pizza or pasta.
